Swiming in Kingston city is not good and the sea at Gunboat beach, near the airport is very dirty! It's best to swim at Port Royal. Or you can go at south of Port Henderson, where there is a nice beach. This one is locals' favorite, and you must drive 15-20 minutes out of Kingston.
If there's no traffic it's Ok, but if you are lucky to go in one busy day, is a nightmare.
